How To Maintain White Teeth During Orthodontic Treatment.
In this edition of Friday Focus, Dr. O El-Hillal from iSmiles Orthodontics, your Orthodontist in Irvine, discusses how to keep your teeth when you are wearing braces.
Hi. My name is Dr. O and I am here to answer your questions about the best way to keep your teeth clean and white during orthodontic treatment.
Before you get your braces, it’s very important to have your teeth professionally cleaned by your hygienist or dentist.
Then, if you really want to have super white teeth as you go through orthodontic treatment, it’s important to follow a daily personal hygiene routine. Do you diligently brush your teeth, and use a Waterpik or an air flosser to help you along the way? How you care for your teeth at home will make a tremendous difference.
People who are a little more meticulous can also use different products designed to keep their teeth white while they are in treatment, such as a teeth whitening system or tooth paste system. But as mentioned before, it always comes back to your personal hygiene.
Increasing the number of professional cleanings is another proactive move that helps keep your teeth clean and white during orthodontic treatment. Most patients get two professional cleanings per year, while patients wearing braces schedule three to four cleanings, every three or four months. Of course, they do not get additional X-rays – just a few extra cleanings which can really make a difference.
I hope this information is helpful in terms of your own home care protocol.
